Sometimes Peace Starts With You

There are relationships where you can almost feel the distance growing. Maybe it started with one careless comment, an argument that never really got resolved, or something painful that neither of you knows how to talk about anymore. Before long, days turn into weeks, everybody settles into their side of the story, and reaching out starts to feel harder than staying silent.

Romans 12:18 gives us a surprisingly honest picture of peace. Paul does not pretend that every relationship can be repaired simply because you want it to be. He begins with, “If it is possible.” Some things really are outside your control. But then comes the part that reaches straight into our own hearts: “as much as it is up to you.”

That is where God asks us to look.

Not first at what they should have said. Not at whether they deserve an apology, another conversation, or another chance. But at the part we still carry. Maybe there is something you need to own. Maybe pride has kept you from making the first call. Maybe the relationship cannot return to what it once was, but you can still choose not to carry bitterness into tomorrow.

Peace does not always mean everything gets fixed. Sometimes it simply means you have done what love, wisdom, and obedience required of you—and then trusted God with the rest.
