The Daily Word

Today Is Not a Rehearsal

The house is finally quiet when you remember the call you meant to make. Something came up this morning, the afternoon filled with errands, and now you’re telling yourself you’ll do it tomorrow. Somehow, the things demanding your attention keep pushing aside the people who matter to you. When Moses prayed, “Teach us to number our days,” he was facing how quickly a lifetime passes, with all its work and trouble. His prayer gives words to what you’re feeling in that quiet room: you need God’s help to spend your time on what matters while you have the opportunity.

Following Jesus teaches us to make room for love within the life we already have, with its responsibilities, interruptions, and unfinished work. We begin to notice the person we’ve been meaning to check on, the apology we keep postponing, or the prayer we rush past each morning. As we bring those moments before God, Moses’ prayer becomes our own, and we begin to give the day we’ve been handed the care it deserves.

MOMENT OF PRAYER

Father, sometimes I forget that my time here is limited. Teach me to recognize what matters and respond with love while the opportunity is available. Help me walk closely with Jesus and use your gift of the day wisely. Please light my path so I may see the journey ahead clearly.

In Jesus’ beautiful name, Amen.

STAND FIRM TODAY

Give someone your full attention today. Let them finish their story before offering advice, and ask, “What would help you most right now?”
