The Darkness Has Not Overcome the Light
Twenty-five years ago, an ordinary September morning became a day America would never forget.
There are people who still remember exactly where they were when they heard the news. There are families for whom September 11 is not history at all. It is a name. A face. An empty chair. A goodbye they never had the chance to say.
Today, we remember them.
We remember the lives taken. The families left behind. The first responders who ran toward danger when every instinct said to run away. The strangers who carried strangers. The ordinary people who, in an unimaginable moment, chose courage, sacrifice, and love.
But Scripture gives us something deeper than the promise that people can be brave in dark places.
It points us to Jesus.
John did not write that darkness would never come. He wrote that the Light would not be overcome by it.
We live in a world where evil is real. Grief is real. Some wounds remain long after the headlines disappear. Faith does not require us to pretend otherwise.
It asks us to look directly into the darkness and remember, Jesus Christ is still the Light.
Twenty-five years later, hatred has not had the final word. Fear has not had the final word. Death itself will not have the final word.
Jesus will.
MOMENT OF PRAYER
Lord Jesus, today we remember those whose lives were taken on September 11, 2001, and the families who have carried that loss for twenty-five years.
Comfort those who still grieve. Strengthen the surviving first responders and all who continue to live with the physical and emotional wounds of that day. Bless those who serve and protect others at great personal cost and teach us not only to remember what happened, but to remember how we are called to live.
Keep hatred from taking root in us. Make us people of courage, mercy, sacrifice, and love. When the world feels dark, fix our eyes on You. You are the Light the darkness cannot overcome.

Remember someone. Thank someone who serves. Show kindness where hatred would be easier and wherever darkness appears, carry the light of Christ into it.
Never forget 9/11. Never surrender the light.
