The Daily Word

YOU ARE MORE THAN WHAT YOU PRODUCE

September 24, 2026
A weary young woman sits at a desk late at night with papers and a laptop in front of her, resting her head in her hand, while Matthew 11:28 appears beside her: “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.”

When your days are measured by what gets finished, it becomes easy to believe that slowing down means you are falling behind. There is always another responsibility waiting, another problem to solve, another thing that needs your attention. You work hard because people depend on you, because you want to do things well, and because standing still can feel uncomfortable when there is so much left undone. But if you are not careful, productivity can quietly become more than something you do. It can become the way you measure yourself. A productive day feels like a good day. An unfinished day feels like failure. And eventually, even rest starts to feel like something you have to earn.

Jesus gives us a completely different invitation. He does not tell the weary to finish everything first. He says, “Come to me.” Your value to God has never been determined by how much you accomplished today. Work matters, responsibilities matter, and giving your best matters, but none of those things can carry the weight of defining who you are. There are times when faith means getting up and doing the work in front of you, and there are times when faith means putting it down and trusting God enough to rest. If you are tired today, you do not have to prove that you deserve a moment with Him. Come as you are. The work will still be there. When you return to it, remember that you are a child of God first. What you produce is second.

MOMENT OF PRAYER

Lord, help me remember that my worth does not come from how much I accomplish. When I am tired, teach me to come to You instead of carrying everything alone. Give me wisdom to know when to work, when to stop, and how to trust You in both.

In Jesus’ beautiful name, Amen.

STAND FIRM TODAY

Put one thing down today and spend a few quiet minutes with God without trying to accomplish anything. Let rest be an act of trust, not something you have to earn.
