The Empty Chair

The empty chair can make an ordinary evening feel different. You finish your meal, reach for your phone, and realize the person you want to call is no longer there. Maybe someone died. Maybe a relationship ended. Maybe the house has simply grown quieter as everyone moved into a different season. You carry on with your day, but small moments bring the ache back. There is nothing weak about missing someone. Love leaves a space when the person who shared your life is absent.
Psalm 34:18 speaks directly to that hurt: God is near to the brokenhearted. You do not have to pull yourself together before you can come to Him. His nearness may not take away the ache tonight, but you can bring Him every part of it. Through Jesus, you have a Savior who knows grief and welcomes you with compassion. Tell Him who you miss. Tell Him what feels hardest. And when someone offers to sit beside you, let them. You can receive comfort without pretending the empty chair no longer matters.
MOMENT OF PRAYER
Lord, You know who I miss and the quiet moments that hurt. Help me bring my grief to You honestly. Give me courage to welcome companionship and receive care. Thank You for staying near me.
In Jesus’ beautiful name, Amen.
STAND FIRM TODAY
Reach out to one person you trust. You do not need a polished explanation. “I could use some company today” is enough.
