Say the Good Thing

September 4, 2026
Two women share a supportive moment in warm golden light with 1 Thessalonians 5:11 overlaid: “Encourage one another and build each other up.”

Sometimes the good thing crosses your mind and never leaves your mouth.

You notice someone is doing a great job. You admire the way they keep showing up. You think about texting a friend who has been on your mind. You feel the urge to tell your spouse, your child, a coworker, or even a stranger something kind.

Then the moment passes.

Scripture reminds us that encouragement is more than being nice. Paul tells believers to build each other up. Our words can strengthen someone who is tired, remind someone that they are seen, or give a person enough courage to keep going when we have no idea how close they were to giving up.

You do not need a speech.

Sometimes it is simply, “I appreciate you.”
“You handled that well.”
“I’m praying for you.”
“I’m glad you’re here.”
“Good Job.”

If God puts something good and truthful on your heart about someone today, don’t assume they already know it.

Say the good thing.

A few sincere words may take you ten seconds to give and stay with another person for years.

MOMENT OF PRAYER

Father, help me use my words to strengthen people instead of carelessly passing them by. Make me attentive to the people You place around me, and give me the courage to speak encouragement when You put it on my heart. Let my words be truthful, gracious, and useful for building others up. Use even something small that I say today to bring hope where it is needed. In Jesus’ beautiful name, Amen.

STAND FIRM TODAY

Encourage one person intentionally today. Don’t send a generic compliment. Tell them specifically what you appreciate, admire, or see in them—and mean it.
