God Is Still God on Wednesday

The Sons of Korah weren’t sitting by a quiet lake when they wrote Psalm 46. The song pictures mountains crashing into the sea, oceans roaring, nations in chaos and kingdoms falling apart, about as loud as a song gets, and in the middle of all that noise God breaks in and says, “Be still, and know that I am God!” The meaning of be still and know that I am God has less to do with a bubble bath and more to do with letting go, the idea of dropping your hands. The first people to hear it were armies, right after the psalm describes God snapping their spears and burning their shields.
Maybe you stayed up too late refreshing results last night, or you woke up already dreading the family group chat, or you’re bracing for the coworker who can’t wait to talk about it. Whichever side you’re on, your hands are probably gripping something tight this morning, and God is telling you what He told those armies: put it down. The God who quieted the nations in that song didn’t step off His throne overnight, and He’s still God this Wednesday morning.
MOMENT OF PRAYER
God, the world feels loud today, and honestly my own head is even louder. I’ve been holding on to things I can’t control, the news, the outcome and what everyone else thinks, and my hands are tired. Help me let go and trust that You’re still on the throne no matter who won or lost, so the people around me get Your peace from me today, not my stress.
In Jesus’ beautiful name, Amen.
STAND FIRM TODAY
Before you open the news or social media today, put your phone face down, rest your open hands in your lap, and slowly say Psalm 46:10 out loud, letting every phrase sink in. Then, when you catch yourself about to send a heated comment or text, stop and pray for that person instead.
Carrying something heavy today? Leave it on our Prayer Wall and let us pray with you.
