Quiet Is Not Wasted Time

We have become very good at filling silence.
The television is on. The phone is nearby. Something is playing in the background. There is another notification, another headline, another message, another thing asking for our attention.
Even the moments that used to be quiet rarely stay that way.
But Jesus intentionally stepped away from the noise.
Mark tells us that He rose early, went somewhere alone, and prayed. Jesus had people waiting for Him. There was ministry to do. There were real needs everywhere around Him. Yet He still made room to be alone with the Father.
That should tell us something.
Quiet is not wasted time when it brings you closer to God.
You do not need an hour-long retreat or the perfect peaceful setting. Sometimes you simply need five minutes without a screen, without music, without trying to accomplish anything.
Open your Bible.
Pray.
Sit with what God has said.
Give your soul a little room to stop reacting to everything around you and turn its attention toward Him.
The world will still be there when you come back.
But you may return to it differently.
MOMENT OF PRAYER
Father, there is so much competing for my attention. Help me make room for You instead of filling every quiet moment with more noise. Teach me to seek You intentionally, to listen carefully to Your Word, and to value time in Your presence. Give me a heart that wants You more than constant distraction. In Jesus’ beautiful name, Amen.
STAND FIRM TODAY
Take five completely quiet minutes today. Put the phone down, turn everything else off, and spend those minutes with God. Read a few verses, pray honestly, and resist the urge to fill the silence.
