Say the Good Thing

September 29, 2026
Two men talk on a bench at a city bus stop. Beside them, large text displays 1 Thessalonians 5:11: “Therefore exhort one another, and build each other up, even as you also do.”

You notice someone has gone quiet. They still show up and do what needs doing, but the energy they usually bring is missing. You think about saying something kind, then hesitate. Maybe it will sound awkward. Maybe they would rather be left alone. So the good thing you meant to say stays in your head.

Paul wrote to believers who needed to keep strengthening one another. His words remind us that encouragement can be simple and sincere. “I’m glad you’re here.” “I see how hard you’re trying.” “I’m praying for you.” You may never know what someone carried into that moment, or how much it helped to hear those words. Jesus calls us to love people in the life happening right in front of us. Today, that may mean noticing a person who needs encouragement and taking a moment to give it.

MOMENT OF PRAYER

Lord Jesus, help me notice the people around me. Give me the courage to speak with kindness and sincerity when someone needs encouragement. Use even a few simple words to help them keep going.

In Jesus’ beautiful name, Amen.

STAND FIRM TODAY

Tell one person something encouraging today. Be specific, and say it while you have the chance.
