Who Are When Nobody Is Looking

The cashier gave you too much change and you noticed right away. It’s only a few dollars, and she has already turned toward the next customer. You could put it in your pocket and keep walking. Nobody would know. For a moment, you start making excuses: the store won’t miss it, you’re in a hurry, it was her mistake. Then comes that quiet tug inside. You know what the honest choice is. The question is whether you’ll make it when nobody is asking you to.
Jesus spoke these words while teaching about faithfulness with money and the responsibility of handling what belongs to another. Small choices reveal how we handle that trust. Returning the change won’t draw a crowd, but it matters to God—and to the person counting that register later. Following Christ reaches into these ordinary moments. Every quiet act of honesty puts faith into practice. Today, give God your faithfulness in the small thing already in your hands.
MOMENT OF PRAYER
Father, help me recognize the excuses I make for small compromises. Give me a willing heart to do what is right, even when nobody is looking.
In Jesus’ beautiful name, Amen.
