New Mercy for a Tired Morning
“It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” — Lamentations 3:22–23
A Moment That Feels Familiar
Not every morning starts with energy and optimism. Some begin with fatigue, discouragement, or the feeling that you are already running behind before the day has really begun. Sometimes the tiredness is physical. Sometimes it is emotional. Sometimes it is the kind of weariness that comes from carrying too much for too long. In those moments, it is easy to think you have to somehow manufacture your own strength and attitude before you can face the day. But the Lord does not ask His children to begin the morning by pretending they are stronger than they are. He invites them to begin by remembering who He is.
What God’s Word Says
Lamentations 3:22–23 says, “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” Those words were written in a season of sorrow, not in an easy season. That makes them even more powerful. God’s mercies are not reserved for the days when you feel strong and cheerful. They are new on the weary days too. His compassion does not run dry overnight. His faithfulness did not depend on how well you slept, how much you got done yesterday, or how steady you feel this morning. He meets tired people with fresh mercy.
Where This Meets Real Life
A tired morning can make everything feel heavier. Little tasks feel bigger. Patience wears thin. Even prayer can feel difficult to begin. But this passage reminds us that the morning is not empty. It is already filled with the compassion of God. That means you do not have to face today on leftover strength alone. You can ask Him for fresh grace right where you are. Some days, that grace may look quiet and simple. Enough patience for one conversation. Enough strength for one responsibility. Enough peace for one next step. The Lord often gives daily mercy in daily portions, and that is not a small gift. It is a steady one.
A Step to Carry Into Today
Before the day carries you away, take a moment to receive the truth of this passage personally. Tell the Lord where you feel tired. Then thank Him that His mercies are new for you today, not just in theory but in reality. You do not need tomorrow’s strength today. You need today’s mercy for today’s needs. Let that thought settle into your heart. If your energy stays low, do not assume God has left you. He may be teaching you to lean on mercy more than momentum. Walk through the day asking, “Lord, give me what I need for this hour,” and trust Him to do it.
Prayer for Today
Lord, thank You that Your compassions do not fail. On this tired morning, I ask for fresh mercy. Meet me in my weakness, renew my heart, and help me face today with quiet trust in Your faithfulness. Give me grace for what is in front of me and peace for what feels too heavy. Thank You that Your mercies are new every morning. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

I am thankful that God’s mercy is new before we have done anything to earn it. That truth brings hope to mornings when we already feel tired.
